The Call
As workers in the vineyard of the Lord, we all have a responsibility to recall these fundamental truths by clinging to what we ourselves have received. We want to give the courage to go the way of Jesus Christ with determination, in order to obtain eternal life by following His commandments (CCC 2075).
Let us ask the Lord to let us know how great the gift of the Catholic Faith is, through which opens the door to eternal life. “For he that shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation: The Son of Man also will be ashamed of him, when He shall come in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” (Mark 8:38). Therefore, we are committed to strengthening the Faith by confessing the truth which is Jesus Christ Himself.
We too, and especially we bishops and priests, are addressed when Paul, the Apostle of Jesus Christ, gives this admonition to his companion and successor, Timothy: “I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, Who shall judge the living and the dead, by His coming, and His kingdom: Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine.
For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables. But be thou vigilant, labor in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry. Be sober.” (2 Tim 4:1-5).
May Mary, the Mother of God, implore for us the grace to remain faithful without wavering to the confession of the truth about Jesus Christ.
IN ANSWERING THE CALL OF THE GOOD CARDINAL WE ARE GUIDED BY THE CANON OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH:
As Catholics, we are committed to the New Evangelization called by the Catholic Church. We are uniting ourselves to the Call for Evangelization by the combined efforts of the Laity and the Clergy the Bishops and Priests.
Under the Canon of the Church we the Christian faithful have the following rights:
Canon 212 "the right and even at times the duty to give the sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the church and to make their opinion known to the rest of the Christian faithful"
Canon 214: "The Christian faithful have the right to worship according to approved rites and to follow their own form of spiritual life so long as it is consonant with the doctrine of the church."
Canon 215: "The Christian faithful are free to "found and direct association for purposes of charity or piety or for the promotion of the Christian vocation in the world and to hold meetings for the common pursuit of these purposes."
Canon 216: "The Christian faithful have the right to promote or sustain apostolic action even by their own undertakings" however, no undertaking is to claim the name Catholic without the consent of the competent ecclesiastical authority"
Thus we commit as Faithful Christians or Faithful
Catholics to:
1. Communicate and make known to the Church
hierarchy and to the rest of Christian Faithful our opinion on matters for the common good of the Church;
2. Worship according to the approved rites in
consonant with the doctrine of the Catholic Church which to us should be
consistent with traditions;
3. Formation of associations and organizations
composed of Catholics that recognize holy traditions to promote true faith that
is found in the Catholic Church as work of charity for our salvation and of others
either Catholic or non-Catholics;
4. Promote and sustain apostolic action through our
own undertakings that include apologetics, proselytizing, evangelizing, and
educating both Catholics and non-Catholics through the use of Social Media that
include web pages, blogs, newsletter, e-magazine, e-mails, e-books;
5. To be an instrument of getting the truth out on
the doctrinal, moral issues in the Catholic Church.
